Student Admissions

The Azim Premji University, set up under the Karnataka Government’s Azim Premji University Act, 2010, aims to contribute to creating a just, equitable and humane society through development of outstanding, creative and socially committed professionals in the education and development sectors in India.

The University announces the launch of the following Programs commencing in July, 2011.

Masters of Arts in Education

Masters of Arts in Development

Masters in Teacher Education

The University looks forward to admitting students who have a strong commitment to becoming a social change agent.



Eligibility Criteria
Masters in Teacher Education :

Bachelors degree in any discipline (including Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Commerce, Management, etc.)

A professional teaching certification (B.Ed / D.Ed / B.El.Ed / B.Sc.Ed / B.A.Ed / NTT / M.A Ed or equivalent)
A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience at the pre-Primary/Primary/Secondary/Higher Secondary School level or their equivalent from the Alternative School system, or Open School system, non-formal education system or the Pre-University education system.


Masters of Arts in Education, Masters of Arts in Development:

Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline (including Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Commerce, Management, etc.)

All candidates must have obtained a pass class in their Bachelor’s degree.

Undergraduate students who are appearing for their final examinations and are expecting their results by July 2011 are also eligible to apply. These students, if selected, will be given provisional admission pending their results. Candidates who are in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree and applying for provisional admission and have not passed some of their main / major / subsidiary courses from the first / second year are not eligible to apply. The offer of provisional admission stands cancelled, if the candidate fails in his / her final year exam.

Candidates with work experience in the education or development domains are encouraged to apply.


Common to all three programs

The aspiring candidate should possess an unyielding desire to contribute to society and become a social change agent.

The candidates need to have basic comprehension and writing abilities in English language.

How to Apply

You can apply in any one of the three ways listed below:

Apply Online
After submission of the application form online, candidates will need to take a print out of the completed form.
Download the form and fill by hand.
Request for an application form (in areas where internet connectivity is low) by writing to:
Admissions Cell, Azim Premji University, 134, Doddakannelli, Next to Wipro Corporate Office, Sarjapur Road, Bangalore 560 035
Enclose a self addressed A4 sized cloth backed or thick envelope with a postal stamp of Rs.50 accompanied with a request letter containing details of address, contact no. etc.
The application form, application fee payment challan and prospectus will be mailed back to you.

Bank fees

An application fee of Rs.500 (plus bank charges of up to Rs.50 extra) has to be paid at the closest branch of State Bank of India using the Application fee payment challan. Please note that State Bank of India will charge up to Rs.50 as their processing fee. This cannot be adjusted against the application fee. If the payment for admissions is made through Demand draft / pay order or any other mode, the application form is liable to be rejected.

The enclosures with the form that all candidates need to submit are:
A recent passport size photograph
Azim Premji University copy of the Application fee payment challan (in original)

1 Start date of issue of forms by post / uploaded online March 2, 2011

Last date of receipt of completed application forms at the Postal address indicated / in person (hard copies of forms submitted online MUST reach the Admissions Cell by this date) April 4, 2011
4 National written test at different centres April 17, 2011
5 Announcement of the names of eligible candidates for personal interview on Azim Premji University website May 9, 2011
6 Personal Interviews with candidates in Regional centres
May 16 – 21, 2011
7 Announcing first list of selected candidates May 31, 2011
