Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology-Applications for B.Tech in ICT Course

DA-IICT, a UGC recognised statutory university, has announced Admission to the eleventh Batch (2011 Batch) of its B Tech (ICT) program. Admission procedure for Indian Citizens is described hereunder.

Selection Process
Admission to the 2011 Batch of B Tech (ICT) program will be based on the All India Rank of AIEEE 2011 (All India Engineering Entrance Examination 2011), which is being conducted by CBSE on 01 May 2011. Therefore, only candidates who are appearing for AIEEE 2011 can apply for this program of DA-IICT.
The short-listed candidates, based on the All India Ranking of AIEEE 2011, will be called for counselling at Gandhinagar and will be offered admission in order of their merit (based on the All India Ranking of AIEEE 2011).
A limited number of seats will be offered through a separate channel called ‘Direct Admission of Foreign and NRI Students’ (DAFS) to Non-Resident Indians, Foreign Nationals and Persons of Indian Origin. Number of Seats
The intake will be 240. Out of these, fifty percent seats will be filled, on the basis of the All India Rank of AIEEE 2011, from the candidates passing their qualifying examination (ie 12th standard or equivalent) from the schools located outside the Gujarat State (where seats reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories are 15% and 7.5%, respectively), while the remaining fifty percent seats will be filled, on the basis of the All India Rank of AIEEE 2011, from the candidates passing their qualifying examination (ie 12th standard or equivalent) from the schools located in the Gujarat State (where seats reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories are 7.5% and 15%, respectively). Candidates belonging to these categories will be admitted on relaxed criteria as compared to the general category candidates. In case some of the reserved seats are not filled, the unfilled seats will be transferred to the general category.
In addition to these 240 seats, 24 seats will be offered to Non-Resident Indians/Foreign Nationals through DAFS. The Institute may change the number of seats without any notice.

Eligibility
The minimum academic qualification for admission in the program is that the candidate must have passed in final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination (mentioned below) with 50% marks for general category candidates and 40% marks for SC/ST category candidates. The candidate must have passed in final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and any one of Chemistry/Bio-technology/Computer Science/Biology. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in 2011 are also eligible to apply for consideration of provisional admission. All candidates who are offered provisional admission will be required to produce the proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 examination or equivalent) to the Institute latest by 30 October 2011, failing which such provisional admission will stand cancelled.
If a candidate is found ineligible at a later date, even after admission to DA-IICT, his/her admission will be cancelled. All admissions will be subject to verification of facts from the original certificates/documents of the candidates. The decision of the concerned authorities of DA-IICT regarding eligibility of any candidate shall be final.
A list of qualifying examinations is given below:
  1. The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Education, including Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
  2. Intermediate Science or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognised Board/University.
  3. Final Examination of the Two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
  4. Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to the 10+2 system.
  5. H.S.C. Vocational Examination.
  6. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
  7. Three or four-year diploma recognised by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
Date of Birth
Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 01 October 1986 are eligible. Date of birth as recorded in the 10th or 12th standard certificate, as issued by the Board/University only, will be taken as authentic. Candidates must produce this certificate in original as proof of their age at the time of counselling.

Fee Structure*
Tuition Fee Rs. 30,000 per Semester
Registration Fee Rs. 2,500 per Semester
Caution Deposit Rs. 10,000 (Refundable at the end of the Program)
Hostel Rent Rs. 7,000 per Semester (Staying in the hostel is compulsory)
Food As per actuals, as charged by the canteen/cafeteria.
(These expenses will be approximately Rs.2,000 per month)

At the time of counselling an amount of Rs. 40,000 (Rs. 30,000 towards Tuition Fee for the First Semester and Rs. 10,000 towards Caution Deposit) is to be paid through a Demand Draft drawn in favour of ‘DA-IICT’, payable at Ahmedabad. Subsequently, fees are charged semester-wise, at the registration of each semester. The Institute reserves the right to revise the fee and payment structure.

Scholarships
All the students admitted to the B Tech program, with an AIEEE All India Rank better than 5000, would be awarded merit scholarship equivalent to full tuition fees.
In addition, five merit-cum-means scholarships would be offered to the students with the highest All India Ranks in AIEEE, subject to a means test.

Counselling
On the counselling day, candidates (along with their parents/guardian) are required to visit DA-IICT campus, look around the infrastructure available and talk to the authorities and faculty to make a decision about their admission to DA-IICT. Counselling will include verification of the personal and academic credentials of candidates viz. identity, age, academic qualifications and category, and thereafter offer admission or provisional admission to eligible candidates as the case may be.
The counselling will be conducted at the Institute campus. Merit List and counselling procedure will be put on this website. Candidates will also be invited for counselling through individual communication. Candidates, whose names appear in the merit list put on the website, even if they have not received the invitation letter, should appear for counselling as per the notified schedule.

Submission of Application Form
A candidate has to apply in the prescribed DA-IICT Application Form. A photocopy of the AIEEE 2011 Admit Card is also required to be enclosed with the completed DA-IICT Application Form and sent to the Institute in the envelope provided for the purpose. DA-IICT Application Form Number should be written on the top right corner of the photocopy of the AIEEE admit card. The prescribed DA-IICT Application Form can be availed as under:

Alternatively, it can be obtained by sending a demand draft, of Rs. 1050 drawn in favour of  “DA-IICT” and payable at Ahmedabad, to the address given at the end. Candidates must write their name and complete mailing address with phone number on the back of the demand draft. DA-IICT will not be responsible for any loss or postal delay.

The last date for receiving the completed Application Form at DA-IICT is 06 May 2011. The online submission will also be available up to 06 May 2011. Applications received after the last date will not be accepted. Incomplete application forms or forms having overwriting are liable to be rejected.

                                              NRI and Foreign National Students
DA-IICT, a UGC recognised statutory university, has announced Admission to the eleventh Batch (2011 Batch) of its B Tech (ICT) program for the academic year 2011-12. Admission to this batch for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Foreign Nationals (FN) will be through a separate channel called Direct Admission of Foreign and NRI Students (DAFS). For the purpose of Admission, Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) will be regarded as Foreign Nationals.

Definitions
Non Resident Indian (NRI) in this context means, Non Resident Indian as defined in Income Tax Act, 1961 with the following clarifications:
An individual is Non Resident when he is, “not a resident” or who is “not ordinary resident”. A person is treated as “not ordinary resident” when any of the following conditions is satisfied:
  1. If he/she has not been resident in India in nine out of ten preceding years;
  2. or
  3. If he/she has not been in India for a period of 730 days or more during the preceding seven years.
“Foreign National” (FN) in this context means an individual having citizenship of a foreign country (citizens of all countries other than India) and not having the status of “NRI”.
Selection Process
Admission will be granted based on the performance in the 12th standard or equivalent examination.  
Preference for admission under this category will be given to the candidates who have
  1. Obtained a total score of 1500 or more in the SAT Subject Tests (formerly SAT II) of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Level 2 (formerly Mathematics II- C)
  2. and / or
  3. have performed well at A-levels or equivalent standard examination of UK education system in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
Candidates will have to request the SAT Program to send their SAT Tests scores directly to Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.  The scores must reach the Institute by 13 May 2011.

Number of Seats
The number of seats in this category will be 24.

Eligibility
Candidates must have passed (or must be appearing for in the year 2011) the qualifying examination, i.e. 12th standard or equivalent from any system of education as recognized by the Association of Indian Universities in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Computer Science /Bio technology/ biology and must have secured a minimum GPA of 6 on a 10-point scale, if grades are awarded. In case marks are awarded, candidates must have secured at least 60% aggregate in all the subjects of the qualifying examination.
Candidates, who are appearing in the qualifying examination in the year 2011, will be considered for provisional admission. All such candidates will be required to produce the proof of having passed the qualifying examination (12th standard or equivalent) to the Institute latest by 30 October 2011 failing which such provisional admission will stand cancelled.
For NRI Category, the candidate or his/her parents should be NRI and the candidate should have passed the prescribed qualifying examination from a school/institution located outside India.

Date of Birth
Only those candidates whose date of birth is on or after 01 October 1986 are eligible. Date of birth as recorded in the Education Board/University Certificate only will be taken as authentic. Candidates must produce the relevant certificate, in original, as a proof of their age at the time of registration for first semester, failing which they will be disqualified.

Caution Deposit US $1,000  (Refundable at the end of the Program)

(These expenses will be approximately US $50 per month)
At the time of admission an amount of US $ 6,000 ($ 5,000 towards Tuition Fee for the First Semester, and $ 1,000 towards Caution Deposit) is to be paid through Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favor of DA-IICT, Gandhinagar.  The DD shall be issued by a first class bank. DDs issued by Exchange Companies/Private Bankers will not be accepted.  The amount must reach the Institute not later than 20 June 2011.  Registration Fee and Hostel Charges are to be deposited at the time of registration of first semester.
If a candidate accepts the admission by paying the above amount but does not join, then only the caution deposit will be refunded.
The Institute reserves the right to revise the fee and the payment structure as may be decided by it from time to time.

The prescribed Application Form along with the instructions for filling up this Form can be downloaded by clicking here. Candidates who are admitted under NRI category of DAFS must continue within this category only and are not eligible for consideration under the procedure for Indian students.
Completed Application Form, along with the Application Fee of US $250 and following documents, must reach the Institute on or before 06 May 2011:
  • Duly authenticated transcripts of all marks/grades secured in all terms/semesters leading to the qualifying examination.
  • Certificate/document from the appropriate authority indicating your residency status (NRI/FN).
