FEEL OF FMS 2011(ANALYSIS,CUTOFF,EXAM EXPERIENCE)

Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi is one of the premier Management Institutes in the world. Having the mission statement “Academic excellence and leadership in university based management education in India through high quality teaching, research, case development, innovative courses and pedagogy of learning”, FMS provides an unparalleled management education in the country.

Last year’s FMS set a standard in terms of difficulty level which was evident in this year’s paper too. There were no surprises in store for the prepared student.

The number of questions remained the same with a standard pattern of 200 questions to be attempted in 2 hours time. There were the usual four sections and to qualify in this exam one had to get more than 50 percentile in each section. Hence ‘accuracy’ was a major determinant to achieve the expected cut-offs. Giving the same time and keeping a consistency in the number of attempts per section would have proved beneficial for the student.

Facts:

As declared by FMS, there were four sections in the paper.

Equal distribution of questions in each section.
QA section had easy to moderate questions with no questions on higher maths.
Reasoning ability section is a good mixture of analytical reasoning, DI.
There were 4 RC passages of moderate length with simple topics and easy to moderate difficulty level.

Overview of the FMS 2011 Paper
Time 120 mins
Total no. of questions 200

EXAM EXPERIENCE
No. of Questions:200 ( Hoping everyone is on a level playing field here :P )
Total Attempt/Difficulty level (Section wise):
Total Attempts: 122
RC - 21 ( Read only PI mgmt and Google passage) ....hoping to clear cutoff here
VA - 42 Paper was easy..no Vocab based questions..saved my day
QA - 38 ..no guesses at all..solved all..hoping this will maximize my score
LR & DI - 21..Improper time management screwed me here..didn't even have a look at the DI set had less than 20 minutes to do this section...gave more time to QA and VA Hoping to clear cut off here

Banking on accuracy to cleaver overall cut off and sectionals in RC and LR

Expected Score & Expected Cut: - No comments until key is out, but the cutoff should be on the lower side or same as last year as both the programs have been merged and more seats up for grabs ...101 in General Category...hence the cutoffs should NOT increase...

Any Comment(Surprise):
My centre was in VJTI, Mumbai and the room allotted to me was in the third floor, MDR-1...most of the exam takers had reached the room by 1 : 30 but to our surprise it was locked, all of us kept on waiting and waiting and none of the invigilators turned up till 1 : 50...then a peon finally arrived at 2:00 pm and tried his luck with a bunch of keys brought with him, he tried once, tried twice....and finally on the fifth attempt he was able to open the door, we all clapped in appreciation that SOMETHING +ve had happened finally...there were 48 seats in the exam hall and the invigilator (lady) has just brought 24 booklets, she distributed it to some..I was not a part of the lucky 24 ! Then another invigilator (male) had come in and started giving the 24 who were left the booklets, then an extremely INTELLIGENT student wondered that the booklet number was not same as hall ticket number..so ask him the same..and both the invigilators were confused and started calling people...I STILL HAVEN'T GOT THE BOOKLET AND ITS 2: 15 pm! Then the male invigilator went downstairs confirmed that both NEED NOT BE SAME and in the process we lost 5 more minutes. In the mean time some people who had received the booklets broke the SEAL and started solving...esp the back benchers...both the invigilators were busy finding out what should be done ... Then finally i received my booklet and the invigilator says your time starts NOW instead of waiting for 5 minutes for us to fill OMR sheets and read instructions...some people protested and invigilators said you will get extra time. Exam started at 2 : 30 and then said at 4 :3 0 it had ended and started collecting OMR sheets ALONGWITH Booklets, after 10-15 booklets were collected an exam taker said we should get our booklets as mentioned in the instructions...as always BOTH the invigilators were clueless....atleast the male invigilator had the sense to collect the booklets and OMR sheets after the time had finished....the female one collected some sheets and started calling someone asking them should we be given booklets and around 20 students with hall ticket numbers : 38175 to 38194 were happily solving the paper at 4: 40 PM , then some of us started protesting that you should take their papers...then finally at 4 :45 she took their booklets with OMR sheets...15 MINUTES EXTRA TIME FOR THEM ..then finally they said come to admin building to take booklets..as they wanted to confirm with the centre head....then while they were handing out our test booklets one of the exam takers had got it OMR sheet in the BOOKLET !!! If he had gone without checking the booklet what would have happened????

All One can do now is Pray to God that my OMR sheet reaches FMS....

Did I mention that there was a guy using is cell phone inside the exam hall DURING the exam...i presume it must be for calculations....

and effectively some people got 20 minutes extra ( those with the female invigilator) in MDH - 1 in VJTI, Mumbai

After this experience, I personally am in favour of Online testing where everyone is on a level playing field and all these sort of things WONT happen...

I can go on and on with the stupidity and preparedness(or the lack of it) of the exam conducting team at VJTI, Mumbai ...but already this is a huge post.....

the room we got surely wasnt used for years... but haan used by pigeons a lot...!!
after a lot of struggle found A1 at 1:55pm.
at 1:59 sumone came in but was in no mood to distribute. After repeated attempts, finally gave it out at 2:05. then sum one asked.."should i start".. he casually said yes..
it was aweful...god knows how can FMS do this!!!

best part is..i gave my exam, with a pigeon at my side...constantly reminding me. "u r in my territory"
