CAT 2010 paper
Prometric, the company which was responsible for conducting the very first on-line CAT last year, has currently come up with a method to make sure higher precision in the entrance tests by bringing out distinctive sets of question papers different for every applicant in 2010.
"Every question paper is going to be a little different from one other, nevertheless its assessment will be done on the same scale," Managing Director of Prometric, Soumitra Roy mentioned.
"Because every question paper will be different, it may be entirely possible that a few questions tend to be tougher compared to others. We'll take this into account while managing evaluation," added Roy.

Reached the centre at 8am. Desolated!! Double checked if I was at the right place.
The process started with a simple registration desk on the ground floor. The test is scheduled in a restricted area of the 4th floor. I was pleasently surprised with the way the whole exam was managed and governed. Marked improvement over the last year. Since, you are not allowed to carry and eatables/drinkables, I would recommend to go prepared, esp, for the morning slots.
Well, the biometric and other processes are similar to last year and we were about 40 guys in one room.
CHANGE: Computers are not desk mounted. There is a glass top table and the screen is below. So you actually have to look down and attempt the paper.
The tutorial is a bit different this time around and I recommend everyone to go through it nicely. there is little to gain out of it, btw. You also get a 2 page Prometric IIM instruction sheet that forbids you to publish,distribute,distribute etc any part of the test in any manner so I will refrain from posting any direct questions here. This article should be jsut referred to as my experience on the overall paper.
After the administrators log you on, you would be given a verification code sharp at 10 am which you will use to start the test. You will be provided a scratch pad( 8 sides only)
Test Pattern: 60 questions, as already decided and announced by the IIMs.
My Test Paper: *****moderated
Paper level: 2009 level. Easily manageable
Sectional Take :
DI: Easy to medium caselets. Mainly based on calculations and very fundamental reasoning. Loads of pie charts and histograms. DS and Arithmetic based DI made their presence felt too. Overall, for all calls, *****moderated. There are caselets with multiple questions so, obviously, be careful that you 'mark' all the answers and the tab turns pink.
VA: again, no big surprises here. The outdated questions article on PG's main page can be ignored now [Smile] Passages are of average length with text highlighting functionality. You can highlight multiple lines. *****moderated. The all time CAT favourite Parajumbles were present, 5 liners and Last Sentence questions were also asked. *****moderated. overall: 45 minutes and 18-20 attempts
QA: Kya bolun yaar !! Awesome, Super Duper easy. I believe one who does not rely too much on theoritical formula and standard stuff, would find it easily manageable. With questions based more on common sense and attemptable easily within the time frame, i fell the QA cut off can be little high. *****moderated
Overall paper looks relatively simple to me. It may be a move to standardise the kind of questions for the adaptive pattern that CAT is trying to follow in years to come.
Please do not bury yourself in needless stuff now. Ensure that atleast all questions of the last 10-15 years have been attempted by you. Should give you a good feel of the types of questions you can expect.
PS: I could finish the paper in about 100 minutes and spent the rest of the time trying to find errata. There are some questions which left loads of ambiguity, but the easy part was there were no answer options with CBD or NOTA, hence assumptions were supposed to be taken [Smile]
These are my personal opinions. Paper patterns may change over the next slot/day/week. However, one thing is clear.
There are no golden rules to crack CAT 2010, there surely are some to break it !! Those would be:
a. Unnecessary attempts, losing accuracy
b. Preparing very tough caselets, ala AIMCATs
c. Ignoring the basic funda and key numbers (Pythagoras stuff, Special numbers, key percentage ratios0
Suggestions: try to master calculations, should save you tonnes of time.
Phew !! A long one.. WIll try posting more as I get on more info. In the meanwhile guys, start planning on GK for your other exams. It is in the best interest of your career. No one can over prepare for CAT [Happy]

I took the CAT after eight years and in a completely new avatar. Though I was a little nervous when I entered the test centre, I consoled myself that if I got lucky, I will have the technical glitches to blame it all on. After all my first experience with CAT 2002 wasn’t all that great either. But to my very pleasant surprise there were no glitches and I could sit through the test, attempting more questions than I expected. Here’s how my second encounter with CAT went:
I was lucky to have the CAT test centre within walking distance of my home. Since I had not visited the centre before, I took an auto and was there in less than three minutes. It was almost 8:45 am by then and I was praying that they should allow me to enter. I was told by everybody to be at the centre two hours before, so the tension was evident. But as I spotted the entrance of the building and started climbing the stairs, there was one of the faculty members standing there to guide me. She took a look at my admit card, highlighted my Test ID, and my name and asked me to proceed to the fifth floor.
On the fifth floor was the security desk, where one male guard, one female guard and several faculty members were waiting for candidates. I was asked to switch off my cell phone and surrender all my belonging. Prepared for this, I had not carried anything besides a little cash and my house keys. In one minute, the officials asked my thrice to deposit my belongings. Then the lady guard took me to a empty room for further checking.
Once through the security, I was asked to start the registration process. I took my place in front of a webcam, got my picture clicked and then was asked to place my finger on the bio-metric scanner – right index finger thrice followed by the left index finger thrice.
Post the registration process, I was asked to wait in the same room, where already 15 men were sitting. I realised, I was the only girl there. There were candidates who were allowed to come in till 9:30 am.
We were then given our admit cards back, which now carried the computer number assigned to us. In over enthusiasm or nervousness, a Mr Manoj Kapoor grabbed the form of a Manoj Kumar and finally had to exchange it when his name was finally. During this 40 minute long wait in this room, there were senior faculty members from the institute who dropped in to make small talk and wish us luck.
Proceeding to the computer lab, adjacent to the registration room, I took my place at the computer screen. The first thing that caught my attention was the dense smell of fresh cardboard that had been used to create partition between computer screens. It took me a good 10 minutes to get used to the smell. The other thing were the loose wires that were hanging from my machine and the machine next to mine. One of the people on duty spotted it and tucked them under the table.
9:45 we were asked to start the 15-minute tutorial. Nine minutes into the tutorial, one of the candidates in the room ended his tutorial and pressed the ‘Start your Test’ button. It caused a little commotion but then everybody else’s tutorials were ended to even though there were full five minutes to go and we were made to start the test.
The first section for me was Verbal. It helped me ease, because atleast the questions are comparatively easier to understand than quant. During the test there were no technical glitches and it went smooth. There was a thin yellow vertical line that went through my screen. Since it was not bothering my vision, I did not ask for the attention of the people on duty.
2 hours and 15 minutes later, the test ended. I turned to look around and everybody looked as if they wanted to pop out of their seats. But we were asked to stay put. First it was the submission of the test that took long and then the uploading of the test to the Prometric server, which took longer. During this time also, the loo breaks were prohibited.
While sitting there, I started talking to the person sitting next to me. We discussed a few questions, tough passage and our professions. To my surprise, he was an IIM-A grad from 2008 batch and had been taking CAT for last two years. “I wanted to start my own business, so I have taken up the franchise of a coaching centre. Till now it was only for GMAT but now I want to launch CAT,” he told me.
Finally around 1 pm we were allowed to leave the lab and suddenly we heard a lady call out. Which one of you is a good speaker, she asked, and she pointed at two people including me. “There are a few members of the press waiting. Can you give an interview?”. I refused, the other agreed.
On the whole, a good experience and glad that IIMs and Prometric got it right this time. Hopefully the performance continues in the coming days when the candidates will increase. In my lab there were there were 22 other with me giving the test today.
All in all, it was a frictionless first-day for CAT 2010. According to Prometric, 4,548 candidates were due to appear for the test today, a far cry from the 12,000 odd candidates that appeared on the first day of CAT 2010. CAT 2010 Convenor Prof. Himanshu Rai told me that they deliberately capped the number of test-takers today so as to not overload the system. While the first day has been glitch-free, the real challenge for Prometric will be to ensure a similar experience during the weekend slots in November, when between 10,000 to 13,000 candidates are due to appear for the CAT on a single day.
It appears that several candidates today have been unable to take the exam because they forgot to bring a photo-identity card, their vouchers or the admit card or did not reach the centre by 8.30 am. According to Prof Rai: “The least we expect from them (the candidates) is the discipline of bringing proper documents and reaching their centres on time. The instructions have been given to them long before so nobody can help them (the candidates who had to miss the exam today) if they don’t follow the instructions.” He appealed to candidates in the future slots to ensure that they brought with them their CAT vouchers, admit cards, photo-identity cards and if applicable, their caste certificates.

Admissions for PGP 2011-12.
The application process is completely online; hence a PC with an Internet connection is a must. You will need to create an account to complete the online application. Once this is done, a confirmation email will be sent to you with the necessary information to activate your online application account.
The online application will ask you to complete information which pertains to your personal details, contact details, education details, work experience details, etc. in addition to writing a few essays. You will also need to provide names and contact details of two professionals to write recommendation letters for you based on the format which is accessible from our online application.

Analysis Of CSAT 2011
It is quite interesting to see that the new syllabus has brought in sea change in approach to General studies and Current Affairs.
Earlier (prior to 2010 preliminary exam) most of the questions asked were data like nature. One needs to memorize lot of facts and figures. Indeed, previous exams have evaluated candidate's donkey faculty - how much data he/she can carry!!!
Now its totally different. In the new CSAT besides asking few factual based questions most emphasis would be in evaluating candidate's ability to analyze issues, Reasoning ability and decision making skills and his/her capacity put a sharp eye on the world around
Syllabus forms very important part of exam as the nature of questions will be asked under the frame work of syllabus. So let us go into details of nature of new syllabus:
The nature of questions from Indian History and Geography will remain more or less same. History may include Ancient, Medieval and Modern History of India. As in the current trend most of the questions would be asked from Modern India (1957 uprising to 1947 Independence) especially from Indian national movement. However we must ready to face questions from contemporary history (till 1960 or 1990) as well.
Under the chapter of Geography same question pattern may remain however more emphasis may be on Indian geography (Human) and geographical issues related to current affairs.
In section under Indian Polity, along with the previous nature the governance issues will be asked. (it means constitutional, legal, administrative and other issues emerging from the politico-administrative system prevalent in the country)
The scope of economy has expanded enormously under CSAT. Earlier candidates were tend to neglect economy altogether as there were few questions have been asked in exam. On seeing the new syllabus we can say besides economic development, questions related to National policies and social issues would also be asked. Also its scope is not restricted within Indian economy; we may expect questions from India's economic relation with world (Bilateral trade and International Institutions such as WTO IMF etc). However emphasis would be in Indian Economy.
Questions under General Science would remain almost same as previous year trend. Â It includes Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Emphasis would be given on Biology especially like Human physiology, Nutrition and Diseases.
Regarding the General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change, few questions have been asked in previous year exams under topics of geography and Current affairs. However special mention made in the new syllabus illustrates its importance in current global politics and policies. So candidates must go into the current issues related to environment, Ecology, Bio-diversity and climate change but it is not necessary to go deep into the subject matter.
Under the section of current event of national and International importance, the focus of the issues will be more or less same as previous year. However there will be less emphasis on data based questions such as personalities, books, years, institution etc. Candidate are advised to look a little deeper like root cause, impacts and associated details of important current issues.
Mental ability part in old syllabus is separated in to a full Aptitude Test paper and replaced the optional subject. In this paper besides Logical reasoning & analytical ability, the scope has been widened to include Interpersonal skills and English comprehension.
This is the most worrisome issue for the students belong to Arts degree and rural background. However the questions would be asked from 10th standard level only. So there is no need to worry or panic. Any person who is willing to learn can acquire these skills in a matter of few weeks. Just put your mind and heart into in.

get the relevant books based on the subject
Divide the books and study daily stating with Fundamental and basic concepts
Some books helpful for pre-requisite knowledge on the subject

Go through Syllabus and Previous questions papers
Start from the first chapter
read at least 5 books, it will widen your knowledge(if necessary consult with the books for pre-requisite knowledge or with some expert)

Solve problems as maximum as possible(from text books, Guide books etc)

Divide the books and study daily stating with Fundamental and basic concepts

Go through Syllabus and Previous questions papers
Start from the first chapter
read at least 5 books, it will widen your knowledge(if necessary consult with the books for pre-requisite knowledge or with some expert)
Note down the probable concepts(definitions, unit, dimension etc.)
Note down necessary theories, formulae etc
Solve problems as maximum as possible(from text books, Guide books etc)
Think about various tricks in solving problems(if necessary, note it)
Go for series of self tests based on this chapter(take other's help to conduct tests)
Continue the self tests until getting a very good score .Solve more and more problems, discover more and more new tricks…
Follow the same procedure for the rest chapters

AdmissionsProcedure
TAPMI has adopted a two stage process for admitting candidates to the PGDM Programmes. Valid CAT/ GMAT scores are mandatory pre-requisites to qualify for the admission process. Scores of GMAT 2009/2010/2011 are acceptable in addition to CAT 2010 to screen candidates for the second stage consisting of Group-discussion/Case Analysis/Interviews or other evaluation components the Institute deems fit. For admission to PGDM (Healthcare Management) alone, the Institute conducts a separate test, TAPMI Admission Test (TAT) in the month of February 2011. This test is in addition to letting candidates apply through CAT/GMAT scores for PGDM(HCM).
Based on scores in CAT / GMAT and academic excellence, work experience, extra-curricular and clarity of purpose, candidates are short-listed and invited to participate in the subsequent TAPMI Admissions Process (GD/PI) to be held at Bangalore, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata and Manipal. CAT is used only for short-listing. IIMs have no role in the selection process or conduct of the PGDM programme. Final Selection will be based on performance in the TAPMI Admissions Process.
Eligibility
A three-year (10+2+3) University Degree in any discipline, recognised by the AIU as eligible for Post Graduation, with not less than 50% overall aggregate marks. This applies to also those with professional qualifications like Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting and Company Secretary. Candidates appearing for final year degree examination may also apply. However such candidates, if selected by TAPMI, are required to produce proof of completion of graduation by the time they join the PGDM Programmes and submit their mark-lists and other testimonials within the stipulated date.
Fee Details
The current Academic Fee payable by admitted students for the 2-year PGDM Programmes is Rs. 8,25,000/- inclusive of course material and academic resources. Hostel Fee is approximately Rs. 1,46,000/- for the two-year period. Monthly food bill is approximately Rs. 2,500/- per month.

The University Grants Commission announces holding of the National Eligibility Test (NET) on 26th December, 2010 (Sunday) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Eligibility for Lectureship in Indian universities and colleges. UGC will conduct NET in 77 (seventy seven) subjects (listed under item no. 9) at 70 (Seventy, including four new centres) selected University Centres (listed under Item no. 10) spread across the country.
The result of the UGC-NET held on 27th June, 2010 and the one to be held on 26th December, 2010 will be made available on the UGC website: www.ugc.ac.in and shall also be published in the Employment News as and when it is declared. The candidates will not be individually intimated about their result.
The candidates who qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject and are also eligible for lectureship. The universities, institutions, IITs and other national organizations may select the JRF awardees for whole time research work in accordance with the procedure prescribed by them. The award of JRF will depend on the performance of the candidate in all three papers of NET. However, the candidates qualifying exclusively for lectureship will not be considered for award of JRF. Candidates appearing in NET should clearly specify in the prescribed Application Form whether they are applying for both JRF & eligibility for Lectureship OR only for eligibility for Lectureship. Candidates who qualify the Test for eligibility for Lectureship will be governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of lecturers of the concerned universities/colleges/state governments, as the case may be.
Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Visually Handicapped (VH)/Physically Handicapped (PH) / Other Backward Classes (OBC) (Non-creamy layer), as per the central list of Other Backward Classes available on National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), Government of India website : www.ncbc.nic.in, candidates will be given such special concessions as may be decided by the Commission.
2) JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP :
Candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship will be eligible to receive fellowship of UGC under various schemes, subject to finding their placement in universities/IITs/institutions. The validity period of the offer is two years w.e.f. the date of issue of JRF Award Letter. However, in case the candidates have already joined M.Phil/Ph.D., the date of commencement of fellowship shall be from the date of declaration of NET result or date of their joining, whichever is later.
UGC NET ELIGIBILITY :AGE LIMIT & RELAXATION :
i)
Junior Research Fellowship: Not more than 28 years as on 01.12.2010. A relaxation upto 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH/VH categories and to women applicants. Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority. Three years’ relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing L.L.M. Degree. Total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years under any circumstances.
ii) Lectureship: There is no upper age limit for applying for lectureship eligibility.
CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY
i) Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test. The Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Physically Handicapped (PH)/Visually Handicapped (VH) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
ii) Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited OR candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of JRF/Lectureship eligibility only after they have passed their Master’s degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ST/PH/VH category candidates). Such candidates must complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
iii) The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination had been completed by 19th September, 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for appearing in NET
iv) Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only. The candidates whose post-graduation subject is not covered in the list of subjects in item No. 9, may appear in a related subject.
v) Candidates seeking concession in fee are required to submit attested copy of their OBC(Non-creamy layer)/SC/ST/PH/VH certificate along with online print out of their Application Forms (obtained while applying on-line). Other candidates are not required to submit any certificates/documents in support of their eligibility alongwith print out of their Application Form. Therefore, the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for the Test. In the event of any ineligibility being detected by the Commission at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable for legal action.
vi) Candidates with post-graduate diploma/certificate course(s), should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their course(s) with Master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.
4) AGE LIMIT & RELAXATION :
i) Junior Research Fellowship : Not more than 28 years as on 01.06.2010. A relaxation upto 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH/VH categories and to women applicants. Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority.
Three years’ relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing L.L.M. Degree. Total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years under any circumstances.

5) EXEMPTION (ELIGIBILITY FOR LECTURESHIP) :
i) For M. Phil/ Ph.D candidates: The candidates having Ph.D. Degree in the concerned subject are exempted from NET for Under Graduate and Post Graduate level teaching. The candidates having M. Phil Degree in the concerned subject are exempted from NET for Under Graduate level teaching only. The candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF examination prior to 1989 are also exempted from appearing in NET.
ii) For SET Candidates: The candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Lectureship held prior to 1st June 2003, are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible to apply for Lectureship anywhere in India. For SET held from 1st June 2003 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of lecturer only in the universities/ colleges belonging to the state from where they have cleared their SET. All SET qualified candidates are also eligible to appear in NET, if they so desire.
i)
The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will be held on 26th December, 2010 in two separate sessions as under:

It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. UGC has decided to provide choice to the candidates from the December 2009 UGC-NET onwards. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions of two marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any fifty (50). In the event of the candidate attempting more than fifty questions, the first fifty questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.
Paper-II shall consist of questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each of these papers will consist of a Test Booklet containing 50 compulsory objective type questions of two marks each.
The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I and Paper-II on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheet provided along with the Test Booklet. The detailed instructions for filling up the OMR Sheet will be sent to the candidate along with the Admit Card.
Paper-III will consist of only descriptive questions from the subject selected by the candidate. The candidate will be required to attempt questions in the space provided in the Test Booklet. The structure of Paper-III has been revised from June, 2010 UGC-NET and is available on the UGC website www.ugc.ac.in.
6) EXAMINATION FEE AND MODE OF PAYMENT :
For General candidates, the examination fee is Rs.450/-; for Other Backward Classes (OBC), the fee is Rs. 225/- and for SC/ST/PH/VH candidates, it is Rs. 110/-. The fee should be paid in the form of a single crossed demand draft from any Government of India Bank/Scheduled Government Bank payable at their Service Branch, New Delhi/Delhi only with six months’ validity drawn in favour of the Secretary, U.G.C., New Delhi. Fee once paid, will not be refunded under any circumstances.

IMPORTANT :
i) The national level Test for determining the eligibility of candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowship/Lectureship in science subjects (Chemical Sciences; Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean & Planetary Sciences; Life Sciences; Mathematical Sciences; Physical Sciences) is conducted jointly with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. HOW TO APPLY (APPLICATIONS HAVE TO BE SUBMITTED ONLINE) :
STEPS FOR SUBMISSION OF ONLINE APPLICATION FORM
i)
The candidates are required to download the Bank Challan Performa from the UGC website OR take photocopy from the UGC-NET Notification published in the Employment News and then deposit the requisite test fee in any branch of State Bank of India along with the bank charges (commission) of Rs.20/-.
ii)
Before applying Online, the candidates must possess the following : (i) Scanned passport (pp) size photograph in JPEG format should be less then 300kb, (ii) Copy of Bank Challan (fee receipt)

iv)

Paper-I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.
Paper-II shall consist of short questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each of these papers will consist of a Test Booklet containing 50 objective type questions. The candidate will have to mark the response for each question on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheet provided alongwith the Test Booklet. The detailed instructions for filling up the OMR Sheet will be sent to the candidate along with the Admit Card. Paper-III will consist of only descriptive questions from the subject selected by the candidate. The candidate will be required to attempt questions in the space provided in the Test Booklet. The format of Paper-III has been revised w.e.f. June,2005 UGC-NET and is available on the UGC website www.ugc.ac.in.
Syllabus of UGC NET Test: Syllabi for all NET subjects can be downloaded from the UGC Website www.ugc.ac.in and are also available in the libraries of all Indian universities. UGC will not send the syllabus to individual candidates.
IMPORTANT :
i) The national level Test for determining the eligibility of candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowship/Lectureship in science subjects (Chemical Sciences; Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean & Planetary Sciences; Life Sciences; Mathematical Sciences; Physical Sciences) is conducted jointly with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. Check out CSIR UGC NET The candidates in science subjects, desirous of availing UGC-JRF or obtaining eligibility for Lectureship in these subjects are advised to appear in the Joint CSIR-UGC Test for Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Lectureship conducted by CSIR.

HOW TO APPLY (APPLICATIONS HAVE TO BE SUBMITTED ONLINE) :
STEPS FOR SUBMISSION OF ONLINE APPLICATION FORM
i)
The candidates are required to download the Bank Challan Performa from the UGC website OR take photocopy from the UGC-NET Notification published in the Employment News and then deposit the requisite test fee in any branch of State Bank of India along with the bank charges (commission) of Rs.20/-.
ii)
Before applying Online, the candidates must possess the following : (i) Scanned passport (pp) size photograph in JPEG format should be less then 300kb, (ii) Copy of Bank Challan (fee receipt)
iii) Candidate seeking admission to the Test must apply online (i.e. www.ugcnetonline.in OR through a link available on the UGC website: www.ugc.ac.in).
iv)
After successful submission, the candidate should take printout of online Application Form (two copies), Attendance Slip (one copy) and Admission Card (one copy) on separate A-4 size papers.
v) SC/ST/PH/VH candidates and candidates belonging to OBC (as per the Central list of OBC available on website : www.ncbc.nic.in ) must enclose the attested copy of certificate for the same.
Combined Defence Services Examination (I), 2011
The Union Public Service Commission will hold the Combined Defence Services Examination (I), 2011 on 13th February, 2011 for admission to Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy for the courses commencing in January, 2012 and Officers Training Academy, Chennai for the courses (Men and Women) commencing in April, 2012

Age limits, sex and marital status
For Indian Military Academy: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1988 and not later than 1st January, 1993 only are eligible.
For Indian Naval Academy: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1990 (2nd January, 1988 in case of NCC Naval Wing ‘C’ certificate holders) and not later than 1st January 1993 only are eligible
For Air Force Academy: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1989 and not later than 1st January, 1993 only are eligible
For Officers Training Academy (SSC course for Men): Male candidates (married or unmarried) born not earlier than 2nd January, 1987 and not later than 1st January, 1993 only are eligible
For Officers Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical course): Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcess (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible. They should have been born but not earlier than 2nd January, 1987 and not later than 1st January, 1993.

Candidates who are studying in final year degree course and have yet to pass final year degree examination or equivalent examination can apply for the examination, but they will be required to submit proof of passing the degree examination or equivalent examination by the specified dates published in commission’s notice for the examination
Physical standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to the physical standards for admission to combined defence services examination (I), 2011 as given in appendix-V of commission’s notice for the examination published in employment news/rozgar samachar dated 25th September, 2010
How to apply: Candidates may apply online by using the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in, detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the above-mentioned website
Candidates may also apply off-line, in the common application form devised by the commission for its examinations which can be purchased from the designated head post offices/post offices (specified in appendix-III of the notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs 20/- (Rupees twenty only). Each such form can be used only once and only for one examination
In case of any difficulty in obtaining application forms from the designated HPOs/Pos, the candidates should immediately contact the concerned post master or UPSC’s forms supply monitoring cell over Tele 011-23389366/Fax 011-23387310
Fee: Candidates applying online are required to pay a reduce fee of Rs 50/- (Rs fifty only) either by remitting the money n any branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using visa/master credit/debit card
Candidates applying offline (through common application form) are required to pay a fee of Rs 100/- (Rupees one hundred only) through central recruitment fee stamp only
All female candidates and SC/ST candidates are exempted from payment of fee (OBC candidates are required to pay full fee)
