CSAT 2011 conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) first time. Civil Services CSAT 2011 Prelims Examination consists of two papers of objective type carrying a maximum of 400 marks.

Indo-US Research Fellowship Programme: 2011


Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) of Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and Indo-US Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF) committed to the common goal of promoting science and technology through devised programs and to nurture contacts between scientists and technologists at an early career stage jointly launch the Indo-US Research Fellowship Program for Indian Researchers. The objective of the Indo-US Research Fellowship Program for Indian Researchers is to introduce scientists and engineers in the early stages of their careers to international collaborative research opportunities, thereby furthering their research capacity and global perspective and forging long-term relationships with scientists, technologists and engineers in USA.

These awards will provide an excellent opportunity to young Indian scientists and technologists of all disciplines, under the age of 40 years to interact with the American scientific community and get first hand information of the developments taking place at the international level and acquaint themselves with new scientific research methods and to collaborate in a larger research project. It will enable young Indian researchers to carry out a clearly defined research project at a place of their choice in USA up to a period of 12 months. The individual availing this fellowship would be called as an IUSSTF Research Fellow.
Eligibility Criteria:

Academic Qualifications: Ph.D. in Science, Engineering, Technology or Medicine. Applicants must provide proof of independent research work in internationally recognized academic journals.
Age: Up to 40 years as on 31 December 2011
Employment: A permanent position in a public funded R&D lab/ S&T institution (non-private)/ recognized universities/colleges in India. Area of Work: Area proposed by the candidate should be clearly defined as:

Atmospheric and Earth Sciences

Chemical Sciences

Engineering Sciences

Life Sciences

Medical Sciences

Mathematical and Computational Sciences

Physical Sciences


Promising applications in areas other than the above areas may also be considered.
Place of work:

The fellow should be accepted by the US scientific/technological institution, which is internationally recognized as an outstanding institution where major work in the identified area is in progress. There should be willingness on the part of the American institution to accept and extend necessary support to the candidate for the work proposed. The candidate should himself/herself correspond with their proposed host institution abroad for placement. Candidate is required to produce evidence, in the form of a letter of acceptance from the US institution to be visited along with merits/uniqueness of that host institute in the proposed area.
Note: The candidates who have availed any other overseas fellowship to USA for a period of more than three months through any Government/public funding agency during last two years will also not be considered for this fellowship.
Fellowship:

“The IUSSTF Fellow will be entitled to fellowship amount of US $ 3000 per month.” "IUSSTF Fellow will also be entitled to a personal contingency grant of up to a maximum of Rs. 50,000 to cover for visa, airport transfer, medical insurance etc. Medical insurance expenses, visa fee, airport transfer charges will be met by the fellow from out of this personal contingency grant."

IUSSTF Fellow will also be permitted to travel within USA to attend conferences or visit other institutes of interest with the approval of the advisor at the host institute. The Fellow will be entitled to avail one of the following grants for this purpose.Grant of $ 600 for fellowship period up to 6 months Grant of $ 1200 for fellowship period beyond 6 months.

Air-tickets for all the selected IUSSTF Fellow would be provided directly by the IUSSTF travel desk by economy class and shortest route from their place of work in India to the place of the American host institute and back. As a rule, reimbursements will not be provided for air tickets purchased directly. Rules governing payment of salary, leave, medical, gratuity, GPF and pension etc. of the organization/ institution/ university to which the fellow belongs would continue to be applicable. No liability on any of these accounts will be borne by IUSSTF. The candidate selected for the award of the Indo-US fellowship should commence their research with six month period from the date of award announcement. Failure to do so would render the fellow forfeit the award.

Japanese scholarship for international students



The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan offers scholarships to international students who wish to study in Japan at a specialised training college, a college of technology and a university (undergraduate study). The scholarships offered are for three years, four years and five years respectively beginning from April 2012.

Subjects eligible
Specialised Training College (Three years): The fields of study offered in the three-year scholarship programme are technology, personal care and nutrition, education and welfare, business, fashion and home economics, culture and general education and others.

College of Technology (Four years): The fields of specialisation (major) offered in the four-year scholarship programme are mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, information communication, and network engineering, materials engineering, architecture and civil engineering, maritime engineering and others.

University (Undergraduate study) (Five years): The fields of study offered in the five-year scholarship programme are social sciences and humanities: (A - law, politics, pedagogy, sociology, literature, history, Japanese language and others. B: economics, business administration and others), Natural Sciences-A:-(electric and electronic studies, mechanical studies, civil engineering and architecture, chemical studies, and other fields. Natural sciences-B:-(agricultural studies, hygienic studies and science), and Natural Sciences–C:-(medicine and dentistry).

Eligibility: Candidates must have been born between April 2, 1990 and April 1, 1995 and must have completed a twelve-year (plus two or higher secondary) regular course of school education.
He/she must be willing to undergo one-year intensive course of Japanese language and then receive education at a specialised training college/college of technology/university in Japan.
Selection
The candidates will be requested to sit for an examination at the premises of the Consulate-General of Japan at Chennai.
The date and time of the examination will be informed to the candidates accordingly.


Please note that Japanese language skill is not compulsory for this examination. The final selection will be made by the MEXT and its results will be forwarded to the elected candidates by February 2012, along with the name of the institute.

ARM scholarship for Indian students

University of Liverpool invites applications from postgraduate Indian students for the prestigious ARM Scholarship worth £6,200. The Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics at the University of Liverpool (U.K.) has invited applications for a prestigious scholarship which includes a four month paid internship at a world-leading technology company in Cambridge.
The ARM Scholarship is exclusive to postgraduate students in India who have been offered a place for 2011/12 session on one of the University's Masters Degree programmes in Microelectronic Systems or Microelectronic Systems and Telecommunications.
The ARM scholarship is an award of £6,200 and the student who qualifies will also be given a Regional Award of £1,000 from the University. The student will complete their Master's project as a paid intern at ARM Cambridge.
Previous ARM scholars at the university have gone on to secure permanent jobs at the company and others are now working at NVIDIA, a graphics hardware company in the U.S., and Aptina, a specialist in imaging technology, based in the U.K.

To be eligible for the scholarship, the candidate must have an offer for the M.Sc. (Eng) Microelectronic Systems or M.Sc. (Eng.) Microelectronic Systems and Telecommunications at the University of Liverpool. Moreover, the candidate must also have a first class BE, ME, B.Tech. or M.Tech. degree in a subject related to electronic engineering or a computer science/engineering degree where hardware electives have been taken. Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU)


The Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) has invited applications for an entrance test for admission to its Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) and Ph.D. programmes offered in the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Mannuthy, Thrissur and Pookot, Wayanad.
The Master's programme is offered at both the colleges in veterinary public health, veterinary microbiology, animal reproduction, gynaecology and obstetrics, clinical veterinary medicine, ethics and jurisprudence, veterinary pathology, veterinary surgery and radiology, veterinary parasitology, veterinary physiology, animal genetics and breeding, livestock production and management, veterinary and animal husbandry extension, veterinary anatomy and histology, livestock products technology and animal nutrition.
At Mannuthy, the Master's course is also available in veterinary pharamacology and toxicology, veterinary epidemiology and preventive medicine, poultry science, veterinary biochemistry, dairy science.

Eligibility: Bachelor's degree holders in veterinary and animal sciences with 50 per cent marks can apply. Application–cum-processing fee is Rs.1,000.
The selection is on the basis of an entrance examination of one-hour duration consisting of multiple-choice questions. The tuition fee per semester is Rs.10,000. Total fee to be remitted for the first semester is Rs.23,600 and for the second semester Rs.11,300.


Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) programmes are also offered in the above mentioned disciplines at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Thrissur.
Eligibility: Master's degree in the respective/ related subject with good marks. Application–cum-processing fee for the Ph.D. programme is Rs.1,250.
The selection is on the basis of score obtained in entrance test, marks obtained in the qualifying examination and interview. The entrance test is of one-and-a-half hour duration consisting of a common paper of objective general knowledge and an objective paper of the relevant discipline.

The filled in application form along with application fee and other relevant documents should be sent to the Registrar, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Camp Office, Mannuthy, Thrissur, Kerala, so as to reach the addressee on or before June 10 at 3 p.m.
A fixed number of candidates admitted for M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes are eligible for assistantship. The assistantship for M.V.Sc. course is Rs.10,000 per month and for Ph.D. Rs.20,000 per month.
