[Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Oto-Rhini-Laryngology (ENT)]. The Prospectus (including Application Form) will be available for sale w.e.f. 16.12.2011 (Friday) as under:
A) BY HAND on payment of Rs. 2000/- (Rs. 1000/- in case of SC candidates), in CASH, from Post Office, Sector-14, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
B) BY REGISTERED POST, on payment of Rs. 2100/- (Rs. 1100/- in case of SC candidates) through Bank Draft only favoring THE REGISTRAR, PANJAB UNIVERISTY, CHANDIGARH payable at Chandigarh to be sent to the Manager Publication Bureau, P.U., Chandigarh so as to reach him latest by 04-01-2012 (Wednesday). The Panjab University will hold an Entrance Test for admission to three year Postgraduate Degree
Courses (MD / MS) Junior Residents, for the year-2012 in the Government Medical College &
Hospital (GMCH), Sector-32, Chandigarh on Sunday, February 05, 2012 at PANJAB UNIVERSITY
CAMPUS, CHANDIGARH.
The total number of seats for admission in the year 2012 are 37, which are divided equally into All
India Pool and U.T. Pool as following:
1. All India Pool (18 Seats): In compliance with the Supreme Court decision, 50% of total
number of seats are reserved for All India Pool.
2. U.T. Pool (19 Seats): The 50% of total number of seats are reserved for students who have
passed their MBBS examination from Medical Institutions of Union Territory, Chandigarh.
The 14% seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste.
ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION
Selection of students for admission shall be made as under:
All India Pool (18 Seats): The screening test for All India Pool shall be conducted by All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and candidates will be allocated to the Govt.
Medical College & Hospital, Chandigarh as per their preference in order of merit by the
Director General of Health Services, Delhi.
U.T. Pool (19 Seats): The Postgraduate Entrance Examination for U.T. Pool shall be
conducted by the Panjab University, Chandigarh as per notification issued by the Chandigarh Administration. The students shall be admitted as per their preference in order of merit in the Entrance Test.
Eligibility conditions for U.T. Pool:
1. The students must have qualified their MBBS examination from Medical Institutions of Union
Territory, Chandigarh.
2. Candidate should have completed internship satisfactorily before the last date of application
for PG Entrance Examination.
3. However, for MD (Anatomy), Candidates who have worked as demonstrator in Anatomy for
one year or more in GMCH are also eligible to apply for MD (Anatomy) only as General Category departmental candidates but they will also have to appear in the Entrance Examination and compete with other candidates.
Important notes:
a) If a candidate admitted to the course, leaves before completion of full period he / she shall be
debarred for next 3 years from applying for admission to any P.G. Course in GMCH.
b) Candidates in employment of Govt. / Semi Govt. / Autonomous bodies / Corporation must
submit their application form through their employer or produce ‘No Objection Certificate’
from / through their employer on or before the last date of receipt of application forms.

The Entrance Test-2012 will consist of one paper of 200 marks of 2 hours duration,
comprising 200 multiple-choice questions as per following break-up:

MERIT LIST
i. A candidate has to obtain at least 50% marks (General Category) and 40% marks (SC category) in order to qualify the test,
ii. If two candidates secure same marks in the Entrance Examination, candidates having higher aggregate marks of all the MBBS examinations passed in first attempt will be preferred. If these two are also similar, then candidate with fewer attempts will be preferred. If the marks in the Entrance Test, the marks in the MBBS examination and the attempts are the same, then the candidate older in age shall rank higher.
iii. Separate merit list will be prepared for (a) General Category (b) Scheduled Caste and displayed on Notice Board at GMCH Building, Ground Floor, Sector-32/A, Chandigarh & website of the College (gmch.gov.in)
iv. Choice of discipline will be offered at the time of compulsory personal appearance before the Admission Committee in order of merit in respective categories. There are no marks for the interview. A candidate who is absent at the time of interview will not be considered for admission.
v. Candidates who do not get subject of their choice or could not be selected for any subject can appear at the time of 2nd counselling.
vi. Unfilled seats will be filled from the wait-listed candidates in the subject of his / her choice in order of merit as determined at the time of second counselling as per their category.
vii. Seats remaining unfilled from All-India Pool, SC category on account of non-availability of suitable eligible candidates shall be filled from General Category.
viii. The entire admission process will be closed as per schedule decided by Panjab University and no admission will be entertained thereafter.
PAY AND STIPEND
1. Residency Scheme approved by Govt. of India is applicable to Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Sector-32, Chandigarh under which selected candidates called Junior Residents will be paid stipend at the following rates or as amended by the Govt. from time to time.
First year : Rs. 15,600 per month
Second year : Rs. 16,230 per month
Third year : Rs. 16,880 per month
2. Fee Payable by the Junior Residents will be as per Punjab pattern (subject to revision of fee by Panjab University Authority) which is as under:
First year : Rs.22,000 per annum
Second year : Rs.24,500 per annum.
Third year : Rs.27,500 per annum
3. In case of surrender of seat, the fees and other funds deposited at the time of admission will be refunded as per instructions issued by the Department / University.
However, other fees, funds and hostel charges payable by the selected candidates shall be separate as per orders issued by Chandigarh Administration from time to time.
ASSESSMENT
At the end of first six months of the admission, each Junior Resident will be assessed by theory and practical evaluation. Besides, there will be periodic assessment during their tenure and logbook maintained.
SUBMISSION OF PROTOCOL AND THESIS
The Junior Residents registered for MD / MS course shall be required to apply for plan of thesis protocol to his / her departmental faculty within 6 months of enrolment and submit it at GMCH (Academic Section), Sector-32 A, Chandigarh. If a candidate fails to submit the thesis protocol within the prescribed period, his / her registration will stand cancelled. The last date for submission of thesis for the students registered for M.D. / M.S. degree will be 6 months before the theory examination.
