In the year 2003 when the CPF exams were conducted for the first time by Union Public Service Commission the cut off marks for general candidates were around 63 perecent in the General Studies paper. Besides that general candidates are also required to score 50 percent plus in the second paper. However, in the year 2008 negative marking was introduced for the first time and several candidates who scored as low as 55 percent marks in the General Studies paper were also called for PET.
Message for candidates who are preparing for CPF exams 2009 is very simple, try to score around 60 percent marks in your General Studies paper and no one can stop you from getting the call for PET. In our opinion candidates must score high in all the levels of exam as the numbers of seats are only around 500 and number of applicants easily crosses 120000. As far as, SC, ST, OBC candidates are concerned we were not able to find the right sample group yet it would be better if SC, ST candidates’ work hard for around 45 percent marks. There is also some gap in the cut off marks of OBC and general candidates; OBC candidates can feel secure about the call of PET if they are able to score around 55 percent plus.
Finally, I would like to conclude with an obvious fact that cut off marks of past can’t be considered right indicator for the future. Instead, of worrying too much about the cut off marks the examinees must concentrate on exam preparation.
