NIT Trichy- Applications for MS / PhD Programs


Applications are invited for Admission to M.S / Ph.D. programmes for the year 2011 – 2012 (January 2012 Session)
Candidates  applying  for  MS  (by  Research).  and  Ph.D.  can  apply  through  the downloaded    application    form    only.    Application  and  i n f o rma t i o n   brochure  are available at   www.nitt.edu. The  filled up application  form along with enclosures and a non refundable  registration  fee  of  Rs.300/-  (Rs.100/-  for  SC/ST/  Persons  with Disabilities) by means  of Demand Draft drawn not earlier  than  14th Dec 2011 in favour  of  “Director,  National  Institute  of  Technology,  Tiruchirappalli  -620  015” payable  at  Tiruchirappalli  should  reach  Dean  (Academic),  National Institute  of Technology,  Tiruchirappalli-620015,  Tamil Nadu  on  or before  13th January 2012.

 ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAMMES 2011-2012 (January 2012 Session)

I. Ph.D. Programme (Full-Time and Part-Time (sponsored))
ELIGIBILITY AND ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAMMES

I. Faculty of Engineering
Bachelor’s  and Master’s  Degree  in  Engineering  /  Technology  in  the  appropriate  branch  of  study  with  a minimum  60%  marks  (CGPA  6.5/10)  in  UG  or  PG  for  admission  under  OC  /  OBC  category  and  55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 is the eligibility requirement for SC/ST candidates.
For Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department
Candidates with  PG  degree  in  Science  (Physics  /  Chemistry  / Material  Science/ Applied
Science / Applied Physics / Applied Chemistry)  followed  by M.Tech.  Degree   in  Material
Science  and  Engineering  /  equivalent  PG  degree  in  related discipline are also eligible  to
apply.

II. Faculty of Architecture
Bachelors  degree  in  Architecture  /  Planning  and  Master’s  degree  in  Architecture  /  Design  /
Planning  / Building Engineering and Management  / Building Technology or  its equivalent with  a
minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission under OC / OBC category and 55%
aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 is the eligibility requirement for SC/ST candidates.

III. Management Studies
Master’s  degree  in Business Administration with  valid NET/UGC/CAT/AIMA with  a minimum  60%
marks (CGPA 6.5/10)  in UG or PG for admission under OC / OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or
equivalent CGPA of 6.0 is the eligibility requirement for SC/ST candidates.
Master’s  degree  in  Industrial  Engineering  /  Industrial  Management  with  a  minimum  60%  marks (CGPA 6.5/10)  in UG or PG  for admission OC  / OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent
CGPA of 6.0 is the eligibility requirement for SC/ST candidates.

IV. Computer Applications

Master’s  degree  in  Computer  Applications  or M.Sc.  (Computer  Science/ OR&CA)  with  GATE  /
NET/ UGC / CSIR / NBHM score with a minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission
for OC / OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 is  the eligibility requirement
for SC/ST candidates.

V. Faculty of Science & Humanities (Maths, Physics, Chemistry and English)
Master’s degree in Sciences / Humanities / Social Sciences in the relevant discipline with a minimum 60%
marks (CGPA 6.5/10) and a valid GATE  / UGC / CSIR  / NBHM  / NET score  for OC / OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0  is  the eligibility requirement  for SC/ST candidates and a valid GATE / UGC / CSIR / NBHM / NET.

If sufficient number of  candidates with  valid GATE  / UGC  / CSIR  / NBHM  / NET  score  are not  available  for Humanities  and  science  departments,  non  GATE  /  UGC  /  CSIR  /  NBHM  /  NET  candidates  will  also  be considered for admission on non stipendary basis.

VI. TEQIP Scholarship for Ph.D. programmes are available for full time schoalrs in Engg Programmes subject to approval by senate

Norms for Part-Time (Sponsored)
(i)  Candidates  from  organizations  which  have  MOU  with  the  Institute  or  Candidates  from
organizations with R & D Labs of National  repute and public sector undertakings such as
DRDO,  ISRO,  IGCAR,  BHEL,  BEL  etc.  Such  candidates  should  have  a  co-guide  from
their  parent  organization.  Co-guide  should  have  Ph.D.  qualification  or  should  have equivalent research contribution with PG qualification.
(ii)  For  admissions  to  Humanities  Department  –  duly  sponsored  regular  faculty  having  two years experience and working presently in government and government aided arts, science and engineering colleges within 50 km from the Institute.

only. The filled up application form along with enclosures and a non refundable registration fee of
Rs.300/-  (Rs.100/-  for  SC/ST/  Persons  with  Disabilities)  by means  of  Demand  Draft  drawn  not
earlier    than    1 4 . 1 2 . 2 0 1 1 in    favour    of    “Director,    National    Institute    of    Technology,
Tiruchirappalli- 620 015” payable at Tiruchirappalli should  reach Dean  (Academic), National
Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli-620015, Tamil Nadu on or before 13th
 January 2012.
The candidates are requested to write their name on the reverse side of the draft.

  ADMISSION TO MS(By Research) PROGRAMMES 2011-2012 (January 2012 Session)
I. M.S. (By Research) Programme (Full-Time and Part-Time (sponsored))
All branches of Engineering.

ELIGIBILILTY FOR ADMISSION TO MS (by Research)
Candidates for admission to MS (by Research) degree programme shall be required to have 60 percentage
of  marks  or  6.5  CGPA  (for  OC  /  OBC)  in  the  B.E./B.Tech.  degree  and  a  valid  GATE  SCORE  in  the appropriate  subject.   In  case  of  SC/ST  candidates  the  eligibility  requirement  is  55%  aggregate marks  or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 and a valid GATE SCORE  in  the appropriate subject.    Any    candidate    admitted  provisionally,    subject    to    his/her    producing    provisional certificate  and  mark  lists  as  proof  of  having satisfied  the  eligibility   criteria   shall  have  to  discontinue  the course,  if  he/she  does  not  produce  the provisional certificate and mark  lists  for  the degree programme within a week time.    Such candidates will not be eligible for any refund of fees paid by him/her.
SELECTION: Based on valid GATE Score*

*  GATE Examination paper should be in their UG discipline
