JNU- Applications for BINC 2012

 
JNU New Delhi, on behalf of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, will conduct the BINC examination on February 25-26, 2012. The objective of this examination is to certify bioinformatics professionals, trained formally as well as self-trained. Registration is open from 14-11-2011 to 03-02-2012. JNU New Delhi has been identified as a nodal agency by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India to coordinate this examination along with nine centres namely, Pune University, Pune; Anna University, Chennai; Calcatta University (WBUT) Kolkata; Institute of Bioinformatics & Applied Biotechnology, Bangalore; North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad; University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram; Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and a new centre Assam Agricultural University, Guwahati. In the BINC 2011 examination, 722 candidates appeared out of which 35 candidates were certified. This year DBT has agreed to fund Research fellowships for all the BINC qualified Indian nationals to pursue Ph.D. in Indian Institutes/Universities. Note that the candidate must possess a postgraduate degree(or equivalent) & meet the criteria of the institutes/universities in order to avail research fellowship. In addition, cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- will be awarded to the top 10 BINC qualifiers. 
 
Objective:
Jawaharlal Nehru University , on behalf of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of
India, will conduct the BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) examination. The objective
of this examination is to identify bioinformatics professionals. This will help potential employers
in recruitment of candidates having exceptionally good Bioinformatics skills.

Eligibility:
Graduates in any science, agriculture, veterinary, medicine, pharmacy, engineering and
technology are eligible to appear for the examination. They need not have any formal training,
diploma or certificate in bioinformatics.

Application and Syllabus:
The online application can be filled from 14 November 2011 to 3rd February 2012.

Pattern of Examination Important points to note:
  • For Paper I there will be negative marking of 0.25 for every wrong answer.
  • Printed copy of the list of successful candidates of the Paper I will be announced on February 25, 2012 at the respective centres after 6:30 PM.
  • Candidates securing 40% or above marks in Paper I ONLY will be eligible to appear for Paper II and III.
  • Candidates scoring a minimum of 40% or above in each papers(Paper I, Paper II & Paper III) will be certified.
  • Final list will be displayed on March 27th 2012 ONLY at the JNU-BINC website. 
Application Instructions
At the time of application you must have:
      -  Valid email address
      -  Demand Draft drawn in favour of:
         Finance Officer, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Payable at New Delhi. (Nationalised Bank Only)
         Rs. 600 for General category, Rs. 450 for Reserved category and US$100 for foreign students.
Apply online only once.
After filling application form online, you must take printout and also save on your disk.
Note that your application number will be your login id.
Write your name and application number on reverse of Demand Draft and photograph. Do not send the photocopies of academic certificates / marksheets etc. along with application form.
Certificates in support of reservation category should only be attached with the application form. (Applicable only to Indian students)
Send the hard copy of the duly filled signed application form along with demand draft, two passport size photographs and caste certificate (if applicable) to the following address:

 Examination:
The examination fee is Rs. 600/- for candidates from Open category and Rs. 450/- for reserved category candidates (as per government of India rule).  The examination is scheduled on 25-26th February 2012. The paper I will be of objective type. The paper II will be of short answer type,  while the paper III will be a computer-based practical. Research fellowships for all the successful candidates those who are interested & qualified  in pursuing Ph.D in India will  be awarded . In addition 10 cash prizes for top ten successful candidates will be awarded.

 For Scholarship activation

1. Fellowship must be activated within one year from the date of announcement of BINC-2012 result(March-2012)

2. All applications for acceptance of fellowship must accompany with the attested xerox copies of certificates by post only to be addressed to The Coordinator BINC Examination, School of Computational & Integrative Sciences. Jawaharlal Nehru University New Mehrauli Road, New Delhi 110067 India before 30'th July 2012.

3. Please send an acceptance letter mentioning your Reg. No. institution/university where you appeared for the BINC-2011 and your present address(full postal), email(active) and phone no. (contact number).

4. BINC scholarship is provided to join Ph.D in Indian recognized institution/university ONLY can not be used for project. The fellowship will be provide only after verification of duly signed filled Candidate information form received by post.

5. BINC scholarship holders must send by post their attested copies of documents and certificates.

6. Process of activation of BINC scholarship, First send your acceptance letter (as mentioned above) before 30'th July 2012 then join the Ph.D in recognized Indian Institution/university before 15'th March 2012 and send Candidate information form by post. This is required for processing you scholarship.
